John is experienced in resource efficiency; cost, energy and carbon reduction; renewable energy systems design and installation; energy and sustainability audit; low energy design; and sustainability advocacy. John led T4's contribution to the SmartPod project, undertaken jointly with EKV Design, De Montfort University, and Derby University. SmartPod was a finalist in the 'Open Collaboration' category of the 2011 Lord Stafford Awards, which recognise collaboration between business and universities. He also acts as QA consultant to the SunGain solar water heating scheme. He is an accredited Carbon Trust Standard assessor (carbon, water and wate standards; mostly working with large corporate clients); is a qualified electrician; and is an ESOS Lead Assessor.
He takes an interest in the Internet Of Things and Infrastructure Control Systems, particularly the problems that arise from the use of Building Management Systems. John has proposed the development of flexible and low cost Open Source alternatives to commercial AMR and BMS offerings.
